Know Your Fashion Designer: Diane Von Furstenberg

She is responsible for the universally flattering wrap dress and has a built an empire which includes dresses, fragrances and sports wear, but here are some things you may not know about Diane Von Furstenberg:

1. Diane was born in Brussels, Belgium in 1946 on New Years Eve.

2. She met her husband,  Prince Ego of Furstenberg at the University of Geneva in Switzerland, where she studied Economics. They were married in 1969 and later had two children: Alexander and Tatiana.

3. Diane divorced the Prince in 1972 and later married media mogul Barry Diller in 2001. (His estimated net worth is a huge 1.3 billion!)

4. In 1972, Diane introduced the wrap dress and in 1976 alone, 5 million of the iconic dress were  sold around the world. In 1997, Diane relaunched the wrap dress and the style has remained a key staple for the designer for the last 14 years, being reproduced in a plethora of prints and featured in a huge range of films, including spanish director Pedro Almodovar’s recent epic, The Skin I Live In. 

5. Diane was made a contributing editor to Vanity Fair magazine in 1993.
